Ann Peebles- "Straight From the Heart"

I recently got a copy of "Straight From the Heart" by Ann Peebles, the Funk/Soul icon's 1972 classic. I fell in love with this album thanks to the tunes "Slipped, Tripped and Fell in Love", "How Strong is a Woman", and "99 Pounds." This particular pressing is a 2015 re-press, as a quality copy of the original pressing can fetch a pretty penny. I was quick to un-sleeve the record, clean it up, and drop the needle, but that giddiness was short lived.

Right off the bat I wasn't impressed with how dirty the record was upon taking it out of the sleeve. A good cleaning can take care of that, but I should have taken that as a sign. The re-press that I got sounds muddy, distorted, and similar to a bad mp3 file. Oddly enough, however, the poor pressing almost makes it sound warmer, just maybe a little too warm.

I highly recommend this album, but not this pressing.
